A Master Leather Craftsman and Designer for Over Four Decades

Chris Chapman's artistic journey with leather began in 1969. Her work has transformed and evolved continuously over the years from wearable art, historical clothing and artifacts, to architecctural furniture. Combining a life time of artistic expression, with historical research, and mastering sewing and pattern making skills, she's created museum quality items from as far back as the European 16th century.  In the early 70's she began creating Native American and Early American garments and artifacts, including bead and quill work.

The birth of her daughter in 1991 inspired a monumental change of direction in her work. She invented many new techniques in leatherwork on a scale not seen before and began creating high relief leather-bonded furniture that is now recognized the world over. Coined Architectural Leatherwork, her art graces homes and lodges from Montana to New York, to Dubai.

Chapman's work brings a fresh perspective to the medium, which she finds incredibly versatile in that it can adapt to nearly any time period, style and design: from classic Western and Spanish Territorial, to Old English, Black Forest, Victorian and Contemporary.
